In my game as the English the HRE LITERALLY got taken over from all sides...it was like an everyone team up on Germany fest...sad day for the reich =(

I used to play as them all the time when I got the game but then as I ramped up the difficulty it just got really annoying dealing with the aggressive NPC's so I decided fuck it I'll play as the english! =P

Aaaaaaa c'mmon it's too easy with the English :P HRE is a nice and fun challange, if you play your cards right, after 5 turns your recruiting capacity will be unmatched, after 10-15 you're gonna have the riches of Northern Italy at your command to back your ambition and that's pretty much the point at which you're the unstoppable juggernaught, at the sight of which the whole world trembles ;)

U mean like there was in RTW? Smth telling you that, fo exmple, Byzzies are VH and England veary easy before you start? I don't think there is such a thing in this game...

@AcoDaGr8 Although yeh, the HRE is of course my other favorite faction next to England, and has an awesome feel to it in the campaign mode especially once you can secure your finances while maintaining good relations with the pope ;P

It's just that damn money aspect of things as the HRE that bugs me. I understand having to maintain a lot of armies to defend the Reich, but the lack of good cash cow coastal cities in the early bit really hurts =/

@AcoDaGr8 I call those first 5-15 turns the big squeeze as England, where you have to quickly defeat Scotland and take the British isles and northern France/Flanders without getting excommunicated or getting into war with any mainland power. Once you can do that you're all set, and can enjoy a jolly ol cup of tea while you watch your armies grow and your cash multiply ;P

@AcoDaGr8 Oh and of course you have to defeat Scotland ASAP, which was incredibly easy for me because for one thing, I managed to grab all of the rebel British isles regions before he did so he couldn't take anything without declaring war on me, and B) he DID declare war on me by attacking a city of mine which was perfectly well-defended and lost his whole army doing so, AND got excommunicated, while my main army was right outside Edinburgh waiting to grab it =P

@AcoDaGr8 Of course once in awhile the Spanish or Portugese will get ballsy and parachute some troops onto the British Isles but luckily my armies are there training against rebels so it's good practice for them ^^

That is if their armies don't go rebel as soon as they land because that actually happened once rofl, this portugese family member and his army had just landed and they were all oh we have no qualms with you, so I got ready for a fight, next turn they're rebels xDxD

@AcoDaGr8 Lol true true...but eergh I dunno, the English are just so much fun! All you have to do is secure the rebel northern France/Flanders regions, get marriage alliances with Denmark and HRE if possible, and then just nestle in and drink your cup of tea while you raise and train your armies and defend this little narrow strip of land, meanwhile all the mainland powers fight to the death and get excommunicated xD

Man, I don't know HOW you play as the HRE on very hard, the NPC's are so aggressive it's unbelievable. The only faction I've managed to survive as so far is the English for obvious reasons, but even then I had a marriage alliance with Denmark and the motherfuckers betrayed me and tried to take one of my cities just a few years after we'd made the alliance!

Luckily King Rufus the Tyrant and his retinue of billmen, longbows and galoglaich were nearby to recieve them xP

@AcoDaGr8 yeah i remmeber it saying something like when you hover over the byzantines it would say hard or with the English it will say Easy. I could of sworn it said something like that. now im going on the forums looking for the answers. thanks for the help.
