This was a very challenging bend, and in the end a Hybrid approach was taken. The Speak & music was bent to shift pitch up and down several octaves, by switching in timing crystals, and it was glitched by stalling the CPU. Likewise the audio quality was altered with a crude butterworth filter to change the O/p from square to sine. To get the overdriven / distorted voice, a Dalek voice changer was fitted onto the audio output, and also bent to give ring modulation and phasing type effects :-)
If anyone want's the layout for the membrane keypad, drop an email to the address at the end of the clip and I will forward it on.
Cheers, Paul

  • Just found one of these in my stepdad's parents' toy closet upstairs.

Plan on bringing it home to attempt a bend. Can't wait. This is the first TI toy I've ever gotten my hands on, so needless to say, I'm excited.

  • Hi Poopr,

Better brace yourself for a disappointment..

It is one of the most difficult things to get any good bends from.. I would recommend a S&S to start off for a TI toy, but good luck anyway ;-)

  • how much, did u pay for this?

  • Nothing! I built it, it just cost me in time and effort!

  • so you basically rewired it so the keys trigger the noises

  • Yep, plus some pitch shifting and sound mangling buttons :-)

The original Speak & Music had a totally useless membrane keyboard thing..
