Now I know how to make my ex-wife dissapear. Dear santa...

I'm thinking of insulating my house from the inside. My walls have no cavity. Because the rooms are fairly small, I can't afford to lose much interior space. What is the minimum thickness of the battens that I need to fix? My idea is to use battens that are only 3/4 of an inch thick. Then to spray the Spider insulation between the battnes. Finally dry line with plaster board (fixed against the battens).
But will just 3/4 inch thickness of Spider insulation make a significant difference?

It seems an overly messy and wasteful way to spray anything, but no doubt fun and cool (!) - do you reuse the 50-100% (?) of the product which ends up on the floor?

i also have a insulation company, we wont spray cellulose because its garbage, we spray fiberglass in attics and walls, our wall system uses water, 12 hrs after spraying insulation studs have 12% moisture and the insulation is almost 0. Cellulose in your attic will settle and lose your r-value. Sprayed in at 15 inches then settles down to about 6 or 7, it will leave a wave effect in attic, foam is good but exspensive and theres never a 100% seal. Think about it !!

Looks like a giant mess to me . Plus there is no 100% air seal .

This is the worst insulation video i've ever seen. I just can't take the absurd music in the background. I could never buy a product based around such rubbish advertising.

we never use cellulose because its a joke product and is garbage..we are actually called more to remove old fiberglass and cellulose..
we do injection foam.. open cell and closed cell foam... we also use the attic cat every now and then... ive never heard of adding water to cellulose.. it just seems to me if the spider is fiber glass then after awhile it will trap dust and mold? ive never used this product with my company . it also doesnt seem to be a vapor barrier either.. im not saying it doesnt do the job but for Choice Closed cell foam is the #1 way to seel your walls.. floor joist and seelplate......

@jasonHadley420 It is not a vapor barrier but in our area we do not need one, and if we did we could poly the walls after Spider. Yes Close cell is the all in one, and it makes your house stronger.

This stuff does break down.. and causes mold dust and homes for mice and insects... open cell or closed cell foam insulation is the Best Way to go.. it may cost more but your saving will be a lot better as the years go buy....

@jasonHadley420 No sir spider is a fiberglass insulation that has stood the test of time and dose not break down. It is also applied with, not water, but very little glue so it is not wet. Your thinking about cellulose which is applied with water and takes days to dry which supports mold if not dryed brfore sheetrock is hung. Cellulose dose also break down and settle over 5 to 7 years.

@jasonHadley420 Foam is the best way to insulate, which we also do :), but Spider is the next best If done with an air seal package, Spidered homes test are comparable to the results of foamed homes. At Smith Insulation we like to give our customers options so if Foam is out of there price range, or if they want to use as few chemicals as possible and still want the most energy efficient home they can have, we can help. :)

@TheBluesguitarman yes it is very good on sound control, and homes with spider vs batt insulation there is a very noticeable difference
