Alberto Nepomuceno (1864-1920) was born in Fortaleza (Brazil), the city where I live, and is regarded as the first composer to introduce the rhythms and melodies of Brazilian folk music in the Brazilian Classical Music. Because of his compositions with a true Brazilian flavor and the fact he composed Operas and songs mostly in Portuguese (many Brazilian composers used to compose in Italian language by then), he's often called the "father of Brazilian nationalism in music".
Here I'm going to upload seven of his most reknown songs, sung by Brazilian soprano Ruth Staerke. The audio recording will be accompanied by some beautiful pictures I selected of landscapes of my homeland, the state of Ceará in Brazil (Alberto Nepomuceno's homeland, too). I tried to gather photos that describe not only the diversified beauty of that land, but also that express, more or less, the feelings that each of Nepomuceno's songs convey. I really must suggest you the site where I got many of these wonderful pictures (there are many more great photo galleries in it): http://www.pbase.com/alexuchoa.
I hope you enjoy the combination of musical and visual pleasure.
WARNING: Lower the volume before playing this video, because the original recording is very loud.
Músicas lindíssimas!
Também não posso deixar de falar a respeito da soprano: timbre maravilhoso, interpretação magnífica - brava, Ruth Staerke!
