Born and raised in East Los Angeles, Sergeant Major Jesse Acosta joined the army fresh out of high school. While leading 450 of his troops 30 years later in Iraq, he was blinded by mortar fire.
Since returning home, Jesse has been attending Junior Blind of America in Los Angeles to receive specialized education, training and rehabilitation.
Facing the challenge of living without sight, Jesse is finding new ways to overcome his new disability and regain his independence. His incredible story has also been featured on the front cover of The Los Angeles Times by renowned columnist, Steve Lopez.

jesse acosta is the definition of a badass mofo. jesse fought for us and lost his eyes, but not his motivation to lead a positive life and continue on a mission, just a mission he didnt plan for. either way jesse has touched me and im sure many other people that get to know him. people need to help push the need for improvements in the community to aid the blind. like jesse said, he has been blind for 48 years, and has seen perfectly for 2. the governments fucked up.

God Bless you Jesse Acosta. I am a 50% service-connected veteran and served during both the Korean and Vietnam conflicts and I AM LUCKY....I have two legs, I have eyes and can see, I have two ears and can hear, and I AM LUCKY. But YOU, Jesse, you inspire ME and others in this nation. THANK YOU for your service and for THIS FANTASTIC VIDEO. YOU are MY HERO!
