Hydrogen is the answer.. Electrics use batteries. Lith Ion is pure poison. The pollution created just to mine, transfer, make, Test and ship these batteries is Terrible at best. It would take an Electric 1000 years of zero emissions just to make up for the carbon foot print required to make the batteries alone! Not to mention the paint, frame, plastics, tires, chains, motors, copper, Iron, Cables, Lights and .terrible carbon foot print these electrics. Mainly due to the poison of the Lith Ion.

A range of 114 miles is really half that since you need to get home. So. .Really.. Range is only around 55 miles at best. More than likely if you baby it you can get that with a new battery array. They only way electrics will make it, is if there are battery stations everywhere you go and you can swap battery array in a plug in fashion taking seconds. And the range would need to be 250 miles or more per battery array. Other wise, these bikes are no more than a rich mans toy.

You can get a good used Honda XR400 for around a grand. This will save you 14,000 bucks.. You can buy a lot of maintenace and Gas for 14,000 bucks !! And the Range of the XR400 is .. Well.. To the next gas station.. And you can gas you XR in less than a minute. The Electric takes how many hours to re gas or re charge? In 4 or 5 years, when the batteries get memory and need replacing.. What is the cost to replace them? 5000 bucks?

They keep getting better, beefier, more range. I could see one as my third, or fourth bike, plus I would have to live in the right area that is electric friendly, such as many places in California.

with the crappy gas today, and limited time I can ride, upkeep on gas bikes is a PIA. Id like to ride one just to feel the powerband.

@Winterstick549 cheers, I watched "Revenge of the electric car" so now understand a bit more of how much money and time it takes to bring a product to market. Brammo is even struggling at none of there products are readily available yet as far as I can tell, well not outside the US.

@groMMit1981 None yet. I'm sure Zero will eventually make an electric superbike. Right now they are solving the range and durability issues with their standards.

You will get federal and local tax credits in most states. Usually about 2000 dollars off the price. If you buy one in Colorado, the tax break is over four thousand dollars. Might have to be a Colorado resident thou.

"No clutch"....SUCKS!!
100 mile range /100 mph are the magic numbers for electric bikes to become interesting. Looks like we are there!
Plus they look awesome!

the ones that have 100+ range start at closer to 15, they're being a bit misleading there. All the ones with that range are labelled ZF9, and the 'from' prices refer to the ZF6s with a good deal less ;)
