The Bishop of Durham Dr Tom Wright, before returning to academia, delivers powerful speech to General Synod in July 2010 on why women should be bishops but trads and evangelicals should also be looked after properly. • @Anglican08 I categorically reject the idea of "progress," so that's a non-starter for me. As for our loyalty, yes it is to God, but how has God made Himself known to us? Through our Lord Jesus Christ, first and foremost, but also through Holy Scripture and the Sacred Tradition of the Church, so I'm naturally leery and skeptical about deviations from Traditions--especially deviations based on the idea that we're enlightened moderns and know more than our ancient forebears.

  • @TheOrthodoxSteven ok, but ultimately where should our loyality be placed? We are servants of God not of Tradition. Sometimes breaking with tradtion is an important step in progress, many of the most celebrated Chirstians of the past challenged established church authoirty and caused a great deal of controversy in their own times.

  • As an Orthodox Christian, I enjoy much of Bishop Wright's work, but if the Anglican Communion pursues the course of ordaining female bishops it will forever seal its fate as a Protestant sect. In my judgment, it will no longer be able to claim any allegiance whatsoever to the Apostolic tradition of the undivided Church. To be honest, given its ordination of women priests, openly gay priests (and bishops), and blessing of gay relationships, it is already outside that Tradition.

  • @FreakyShow95 i like u too!

  • @EbenezerSydney yeah it was 2000 years ago it was only men who were in command, dumbass.... women are good at their jobs, its just you idiots who can't take it.....

  • I Christianity Women are tempters not leaders

  • "A bishop must be a man of one woman..." [Titus 1.6; 1Tim 3.2]. Am I missing something here?

  • This shows yet another reason why he's such a huge loss for the CofE. Need more people like him in the church!
