The Department of Defense announced today the death of a soldier who was supporting Operation New Dawn. Spc. Jose A. Torre, Jr., 21, of Garden Grove, Calif., died Jan.15 in Baghdad, Iraq, of wounds suffered when insurgents attacked his unit with a rocket-propelled grenade. He was assigned to the Special Troops Battalion, 2nd Advise and Assist Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas." Torre was an outstanding friend, soldier, and just all around person. Torre was a flexible and ever adjusting soldier. In just two years in the unit he served with the BN PSD, MP Platoon, and Route Clearance. His loss is felt through his entire unit. His sacrifice shall not be forgotten. RIP SPC Torre

A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to the "United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."
That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.

What a beautiful video. Thank you for sharing a glimpse of Spc Torre for those of us who had not the honor of knowing him in this life He was such a handsome young man. I offer my sincere condolences to his family and friends and pray that God grants you all peace and comfort. This is beautiful Amy!!! SPC Torre was my husbands soldier - he is sorely missed from both familys and soldiers of the 2-1 BSTB!!!! WE LOVE YOU TORRE!!! RIP my friend!!
