Malachi -- early rehearsal

"Malachi" -- a song by Mecca Normal -- was written and recorded April 9, 2008 after re-reading an email Malachi sent to me in 2002.

Malachi recorded the jazz scene in Chicago for years. He recorded us and gave us a CD of our performance. So, here's this guy who documented musicians and I wanted to create a document of his final statement -- his death -- because the document he made, the video, was not shown publicly, that I heard about. I don't know all the details.

Mecca Normal will be rehearsing, performing and recording the song for a forthcoming release.

In May, 2008 two Mecca Normal will shows will include art auctions to benefit Books for Prisoners. Some of the artwork created for auction will be on the theme -- I heard you Malachi.

These performances are part of Mecca Normal's ongoing series "How Art & Music Can Change the World"
