It is very useful if you are playing a game with a large number of Barbarians. This will keep them out of the areas under your control so you can focus your resources on building other things instead of a large military.

@SickBritKid Or build mounted units to run laps around your borders pwning all the incoming barbarians and get free experience points.What version of the game is this, because I'm in normal Civ 4 and there is no great wall wonder.

Or, you can now focus on building a huge military without being harassed by Barbs, while your AI opponents will.

I always try and slingshot to the Great Wall when I'm playing with Raging Barbs.

this is a very usefull wonder, however i usually fog bust the barbarians around my civ early in the game instead of wasting my resources on this wonder.
