Please don't leave your dog tied up outside a shop while you nip in to do some shopping. Many dogs are stolen this way and also from parked cars. It's really not worth the risk.

Pet theft statistics obtained from -

Sources suggest over 50,000 dogs are stolen in the UK each year. Thefts often occur opportunistically when dogs are left unattended outside shops or in parked cars. Would you leave your handbag outside a shop while you go inside? No? Then please don't trust that your dog will be safe tied up outside while you go into a shop even for a few minutes.

  • im pretty sure the only dogs that get stolen are pure breds so they can breed more, i dont think they would steal someone elses if they can just go to the rspca and get 1 for free

  • @mitsy48 Sadly they don't just get stolen for breeding, they are also stolen to be used as bait dogs, sometimes when I tell the owner of an elderly dog (tied up outside a shop) that it is risky, they say, but they'd never want an old dog like mine, I explain the danger to them and then they understand. Our pets do need protection from thieves and this is why it's best never to leave them alone anywhere.

  • So sad :( Will people chain their cranky kids?

Did you get a chance to talk to the owner?

  • @veggiewarriors thanks for your comment, the dog in the video is my own, I filmed Jeffrey to show people the danger of leaving dogs outside shops as there's been so many stolen this way recently while their owners are shopping, I hope the video helps to raise awareness.

  • @rockinfortheplanet

It certainly has. Kudos to both of you for conveying your message successfully!

Jeffrey is a terrific street theater activist :)

  • @veggiewarriors awww thanks so much, Jeffrey did wonder what I was doing zooming in on him with the camera & I think he looked a bit embarrassed at one point haha, but I told him it was all for a good cause to help his fellow dog friends, thanks for watching & for your support :)

  • Excellent awareness - please don't say, 'Who'd want to nick my old Scruffy/Paddy/Bella', because nobody cares what a bait dog looks like - as long as he/she can't fight back.

The thief will forget all about your dog as soon as he/she sells them for a couple of quid - and you? You'll never forget..

  • It really isn't safe to leave dogs tied up outside shops these days and I hope the video raises awareness, far too many dogs are being stolen and each one is a precious family member.

  • @rockinfortheplanet Sorry Lady or Sir but no one will steal that Fugly puppy she/he so ugly it's kind of cute lol I get your point. And didn't mean to insult your Puppy I know that he/she is the most Beautiful Dog in the World to u.I just had to make that smart ass comment.I love your doggot kind of a Hobo look Cheers

  • Looks safe enough for me. Why would anyone want to steal a dog? I mean, is quite costly to maintain a dog.

  • I would have thought that leaving your fourlegged family member outside a shop would be obviously wrong and something that should be avoided at all costs in fact never leave your family members unattended as you never know what can happen from one second to the next. Please don´t leave them vulnerabel and unprotected.

  • @Lilmosey Thanks so much as always for being there to help and share the message of compassion, that's our little Jeffrey outside our local post office, we thought well we don't have access to the right film eguipment or anything else that mainstream media has at its disposal, but what we do have is the will to try to change things! And with a small camera & a patient little dog hopefully the message will at least reach some who can help to raise awareness :) Hugs to you from us xxxx
