Three families of this bird are living in my front yard trees. Can you help me identify the kind of bird? Neighbors says cranes or herons. I happened to see one walking on my roof out my bathroom window and he looked right at me! Watch and enjoy and if you suspect the type of bird please let me know.

  • Yellow-crowned Night-heron

  • its a cool bird ;)

  • juvenile yellow-crowned night heron

  • looks like an eastern bittern

  • i agree with falcoperegrinus82 if you look it up it does look like a Juvenile Yellow-crowned Night-Heron.

  • check out gm1458 i got cranes(bird),dogs, sharks...

  • Also, the size of the white spots on the wings is another key fieldmark. On Black-crowned, they are much larger and more like white splotches.

  • I agree with that. The dark bill distinguishes it from the only other bird it could be, a juvenile black-crowned night heron!

  • Juvenile Yellow-crowned Night-Heron.
