Andre Eglevsky, Melissa Hayden, Charlie Chaplin, Claire Bloom - Two Scenes from 'Limelight' (1952)

Yesterday I acquired a copy of Charlie Chaplin's 1952 'Limelight' that is so dazzlingly crystal clear I was compelled to upload two sequences containing ballet. And to delete my now very inferior earlier upload!

The first is a scene involving a bedroom, a patient, a dancer, a couple of clowns, a policeman ... and a corps de ballet, naturally enough. Of course this all makes sense in the context of the movie!

The second sequence involves solos and a pas de deux on stage performed by Andre Eglevsky and Melissa Hayden in a work titled 'Candilejas'. I've not expunged two interpolated short sections where Charlie Chaplin and Claire Bloom chat ... in Russian, which is very well synced if I may say so!

hi jessDance00 - look, i've said exactly the same thing about the low passe! not sure if it was in this upload or another with Eglevsky. looks so odd to begin with, then i got used to it.

@nickwallacesmith yeah most of the dancers in this time had that low passe but my teacher always says that in low passe its almost impossible to pirouette and when i tried it it is!!! .. very weird!

hi jessDance00 - just checked the channel comments section on my YT homepage - i don't check here as often as i should but answer all the messages, and so on in my inbox daily - i noticed your xmas wishes on my channel comments.and happily had replied two days ago. this still doesn't explain why YT is behaving strangely in terms of my getting no comment notice emails and so on. life is not perfect!

Thank you for sharing this nostalgic clips with us. Melissa Hayden was a beautiful ballerina and Eglevsky used to partner Alicia Alonso when they both were with ABT. Glorious years indeed. I value your posting Nick, they are always so interesting. I wish you a Prosperous and Healthy New Year!
