Memories in the Making (MIM) is a fine arts program designed for people with Alzheimer's disease or other types of dementia. Angel Duncan directs MIM through the Alzheimer's Association. No art background is necessary; it's about the creative process. Through painting, memories are reconnected and communication is bridged between loved ones. Art becomes the universal language when words fade. Those suffering from Alzheimer's or other dementias can use art to tell their stories and share an essence of themselves thought to be lost forever.
As a neurologist and the son of an Alzheimer's patient whose life was transformed through an art therapy program, I appreciate this story, the folks who prepared it, and the program that supports it. Keep up the incredible, life-changing work that you are doing.
