One out of every three new teachers leaves education within five years, citing frustration and low pay. But, as Ben Tracy reports, a new wave of retirements may put education at an even greater risk.

  • And how do they pay the bills? Teachers don't get into teaching for the money but they still deserve a living wage. You can say the same thing for every professional that they should do it for free. A doctor should want to help people for free etc. etcv. See how that makes NO sense whatsoever.

  • I love kids but I would never want to be a teacher. Too much crap to deal with. God bless the teachers who stick it out.

  • "Teaching kids should be something you'd do for free." That's the word "You'd" being the contraction for the words "You Would" not "You Should" or "You Must". If you can't understand that, you must have been taught English by someone who was working strictly for the CHEESE!

  • You wrote this: Teaching kids should be something you'd do for free. I wouldn't feel good about having schools full of teachers there only for the benjamins then try to tell me that you didn't think teacher should work for free? Make up your minds. Plus, you don't need to leave me a message on my page just reply here.

  • I think it's time to give every child a computer and some good software and let them teach themselves. Teachers are overrated and too expensive.

  • Hmmm... Teaching can't be that bad. Maybe I'll try it. Just maybe.

  • That's why I left my full time job and became part-timer: not only does it pay more, but I have the distance I need from the school

It is the schools fault mainly because meritocracy in school is preferred today

  • Totally relate, used to be a teacher, sucks!
