The upcoming expansion for Eve Online, Apochrypha, includes an update of many of the visual candy, including a redo of a lot of effects. This video demonstrates some of them on the Singularity test server.

Ya no more fleet battles ruined by 100 sensor boosters. They looked like crap. Cudoos to CCP. Looks great can't wait to play!!!!

its hard to see in this video but there is this sort of conical haze effect around where the laser is attached to the ship.
