  • How did they let "pussycat" pass?

  • @spaisflex That always astounded us as well.

  • @ljauss This was the Pyramid's very first day of taping, so the staff was probably just going through some "first day jitters."

  • @gameshowluvr86 True! Especially after the first episode had someone winning right off the bat!

  • This is definitely an incredible treasure! How much did your dad win on the other shows? $11,000+ was definitely a great down payment in those days. Do they still live in that home they bought wiht the money?

  • @cruiselover40 He won luggage on the Big Showdown, but that was about it.

  • Despite this being the first week of shows, I have to say the clue giving is quite bad, lol!

  • I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed, but take a look at the winner's circle board in this. Notice that there seems to be something being covered up. I'm not sure if it's true or not, but originally the winner's circle round was supposed to have the contestant guess ten subjects in sixty seconds. They changed it not too long before the show premiered on CBS.

  • @FlavioGirl

No, it was originally taped in color, but the master tapes for this (and many other) game shows were wiped/re-used by the network. This is likely an early reel-to-reel home recording, a primitive pre-VCR technology that, unfortunately, could only record in black-and-white.

  • was this filmed in black and white?

  • The Ed Sullivan Theater set was huge, even larger than Studio 33 at Television City. When the show moved to ABC, the crew did an amazing job in recreating and proprtionally squashing so much set on the much smaller Elysee Theater stage floor. Mike Gargiulo's spot on direction made Pyramid look so huge (which is was) no matter where it was, and the original version of the theme also gave the sense of great size.

  • @Austin7298 Actually, they did get to all 8 tems at least 3 times when I watched. However, you are correct that no one ever scored all 8, thanks to the "cukoo" for either giving a part of or the essence of the answer, usually at least twice.

  • @20:17, the subject that would set the tone for one of game show land's national treasures.

  • Nearly four decades later, this clip is still exciting to watch:) Then again, "Pyramid" has always been a class game show! Thanks for this gem of a post!

  • Dick didn't do his famous "For now, Dick Clark. So long." He just said, "We'll see you next time on The $10,000 Pyramid. Bye-bye."

  • @spaisflex Yeah, that is what I was wondering. But, this is only the first week.
