U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson was unable to deliver his remarks in person at the U.S. Human Space Flight Plans Committees July 30 meeting in Cocoa Beach, Fla., so instead, the committee saw these recorded remarks on the future of the space program. You can find out more about the committee at http://www.nasa.gov/offices/hsf/home/index.html
Going into space is not just about exploring and taking pictures, it's about the future survival of humanity. We cant stay on this planet forever. We need to spread humanity to as many worlds as possible. It will probably take thousands of years to spread out acrosss the galaxy, but the alternative is to stay here and die. It's as simple as that. No one nation will do this alone, it needs to be a whole species effort.

i get why some poeple prefer just robotic missions, but i see alot of stuff humans can do in space, that robots simply cannot...
that is why i prefer both robotic. and manned space mission

the United States in the 60's had the will to do whatever was necessary. That was a great thing to see.

I am a firm believer in manned missions. I also believe in Safety First. However, we must keep our space program active...with NO GAPS between missions.

We MUST go out into the stars...almost all of our greatest technologies come from space exploration...there are 200 BILLION suns in our galaxy...out there is the answer to all of our troubles...it will not be easy to find...but salvation does indeed lie out in space.
