The Saginaw Spirit faced playoff elimination Friday night, down three games to one in their best-of-seven series against the Kitchener Rangers. The Spirit rallied to post a 4-3 victory, moving the series within one game and forcing a Game Six, which will be played at The Dow Event Center on Sunday, March 28 at 4:00 PM. Tickets for the game go on sale Saturday morning.

The two teams battled through a scoreless first period, but the Spirit took a commanding three goal lead in the second. Center Vince Trocheck tallied a goal at 2:17 from center Ivan Telegin and defenseman Jordan Hill. Winger Jordan Szwarz moved the score to 2-0 Saginaw with a goal at the 13:19 mark, courtesy an assist from center Jordan Skellett. The Spirit closed out the second period scoring at 17:26 on the power play, with Hill scoring from defenseman Ryan OConnor and center Tyler Murovich.

The Spirit extended their lead to 4-0 in the opening minutes of the third period, with winger Mitch Fillman scoring from winger Anthony Camara at the 2:39 mark. The Fillman goal quickly proved to be the insurance Saginaw needed, with the Rangers mounting a three goal counter attack in the later part of the third.

A multi-player scrum left the Spirit shorthanded late in the period, which the Rangers capitalized on to score their first goal of the game. Center Jeff Skinner scored the power play goal at 14:17, courtesy assists from winger Matthew Tipoff and defenseman John Moore. Kitchener reduced the deficit to 4-2 at 16:43 with winger Gabriel Landeskog scoring from Skinner and winger Chris MacKinnon. A third Rangers power play goal was scored from winger Jeremy Morin off of assists from winger Jason Akeson and MacKinnon at 19:08, moving the score to 4-3 Saginaw. The Spirit were able to buckle down however, sealing the victory and setting the stage for Game Six, to be played Sunday at The Dow Event Center of Saginaw.

Saginaw goalie Edward Pasquale posted 45 saves on 48 shots, while Rangers netminder Brandon Maxwell tallied 24 saves on 28 shots.
