Space Quest is a series of graphical adventure games designed my Mark Crowe and Scott Murphy and developed by Sierra On-Line since 1986. These games are set in a sci-fi environment and tell the adventures of Roger Wilco, a janitor who works on one of the space stations. They were available for several different platforms like IBM PCjr, Tandy 1000, Commodore Amiga, Apple II/IIGS, Atari ST, Apple Macintosh, PC MS-DOS and other ones.

In this video, you can see the self-running demos of Space Quest: The Sarien Encounter (1986), Space Quest II: Vohaul's Revenge (1987) and Space Quest III: The Pirates of Pestulon (1989). I hope, you like them :)

  • Great series! I've only played first two games, because I don't really like the later SCI-engine games... But definitely check out fan-made Space Quest 0: Replicated. I find graphics in that one better that in I and II

  • @teknokrat1 Alright so you have every Space Quest game... What does that have to do with me asking which sound device is used in this video?

The last part with Space Quest III is obviously MUNT, although I never had much luck with that emulation, the parts in the beginning with I and II, I'm going to have to assume is Tandy 3-voice.

This video is about all three game's self running demos, I simply wanted to know what the sound device was for the first two parts... Sorry alright?

  • @gyiyg996 and to add insult to injury, i've owned space quest iii since you were 2 years old. i think i know what i'm talking about. when you were 3 years old, i got space quest 6 and ever since then, i've had every single space quest game.

  • @gyiyg996 yeah, you go watch a vid of this running on an mt32, and then watch ANYTHING running tandy 3 voice. have you ever even HEARD what tandy 3 voice sounds like? how stupid can you be.

  • @teknokrat1 Your "proof" is on the web, and if you say this isn't PC Speaker or GameBlaster than it narrows it down to Tandy 3-voice. Seeing how the description in the video mentions the Tandy 1000, this is probably a self running demo on that platform, DosBOX can emulate Tandy afterall.

  • @gyiyg996 ok genius, space quest iii was only programmed to work with pc speaker, the mt32 family, soundblaster/adlib (which is fm synthesis), or the gameblaster. and trust me, what you're hearing in this vid is NOT the gameblaster. nor is it fm synth. so you do the math. you say this sounds awesome, but the mt-32 is FAR more advanced? seriously? offer up some proof.

  • @teknokrat1 Huh? I know what a Roland MT-32 sound module sounds like, and this is not it... I've head Space Quest music on a MT-32 and it sounds FAR more advanced than this.

So I'm still left wondering which sound chip this is using, since not every bleeper is the same.

  • @gyiyg996 lol.... i think it's a LITTLE more advanced than a tandy or a gameblaster. it's the roland mt32 sound module. it's wavetable midi synthesis. it's not exactly compatible with the general midi standard though.

  • Is this Tandy or Gameblaster? It sounds awesome.

  • The only two SQ games that I have not played are II and III.

But from the ones that I have played, my personal favorites are: IV and V

Anyway, Roger Wilco is awesome!! xD
