@gtc1961 Yeah, sounds about right give or take, certainly lots more than the $1 million stated in this clip and other sources say $15 million, so I think they just left off the "5" by accident in the story here.
From what you say it's likely closer to $20 million.
@NativePrairieWolf I think it's hard to say exactly how much it cost to restore it as a lot of the goods and services were donated. Even the storage for all those years was free. If you totaled up all of the stuff and labor she got for free (she didn't take a dime and did most of the restoration work) it would probably be at least 15 million.
This is awesome............. I love your project and your passion for it. I had heard about this and saw this video years ago. It was great to see it again on the class website. Btw, there is a picture of you and others on the homepage at the moment. How proud you must be of this project. Keep on keepin on !
I spent a ton of time in Idora growing up, and occasionally drive past the old Idora site when we come home on visits...it's nothing now. Jane is an extraordinary woman who showed a level of dedication in restoring a part of my childhood that nobody could've imagined. I used to think it was a bad thing that nobody from back home bought the carousel. But it truly was the best thing that could've happened because no person in Ytown would've shown this ride the love Jane has over the years.
This is beautiful! A million dollars spent to restore something that brings many of us from Youngstown so much pleasure in memories is greatfully respected. Thank you Jane for bringing back my memory as a child and for my children. Amazing. I have to get to NY to see. From the bottom of my heart, I commend your wonderful work.
1972 started NAFTA - foreign trade made Youngstown a graveyard and it's culture took many slings and arrows .Thanks Jane , for leaving money and politics out of a great effort . The brass ring stuck out way to far for me to reach but looks like you got a hold of it.
I'm from Youngstown Ohio, and rode the carousel when I was a kid. This year I contacted Jane and asked if my wife and I could see the carousel. Not only did we see it, we got to relive our childhood by riding it. Thank you Jane, it meant the world to us. Also, it made a great wedding anniversary surprise for my wife, who worked at Idora Park when she was a kid.
Hard to imagine that out of 1500 carousels in this country, only 150 are left after barely 100 years, doesn't bode well for the next 100 years.

Great story!
But I think the narrator meant $15 million not $1 million as other sources all say the cost to restore over the 22 years was $15 million
