The Florida Middle School All-State Band performs The Klaxon, by Henry Fillmore, arranged by Andrew Balent (the arranger's name for this piece was also misspelled on the program) at the 2009 FMEA Convention in Tampa, FL.

Under the direction of Mrs. Laura Singletary, L.B. Johnson Middle School, Melbourne, FL

A klaxon is, quite simply, a car horn. The Klaxon is considered one of Fillmore's "loudest" compositions and was written for a convention of automakers to encourage greater sales. Fillmore created a "klaxophone" made of car horns tuned to varying frequencies, as most car horns back then played more or less the same note. (Came right from Mrs. Singletary's book - although I have a good memory, please correct me if you see any errors)

Performed January 10, 2009 at the Tampa Convention Center

  • Quite a few car horns can be "Tuned" such as the Cadillac horns.

I have tuned 12 of them to the frequencies of DTMF, touch tone, and called numbers.

This is not a klaxon type horn of course.

  • well done, that's a really good sound for any band, let alone a middle school band

  • Better than my high school band, sadly enough.

(But not better than me. :P)

  • Man, Texas doesn't have an all-state middle school band, though I'm sure I would've made it.

  • ha ha her hands r like going in these funny moons.. XD

  • i dunno, but this song has no "attitude"... Choreography does though! i'm playing it for middle skool

  • cmon more tuba! tubas are the main part of this song

  • i made last year but not this year =[

  • no tubas!

  • The NY Phil isn't perfect, and neither are we. Musicians who cannot take constructive criticism must either a) cease to be a musician, or b) bite the bullet, accept it, and learn from it.
