Puzzle Pieces
Ep 15 ;; Like A Kleen-Ex
Kevins POV

October 15th
The streets of LA ; 3:22 am

You know your out late when even the neon signs aren't on.
I huddled closer into my thin jacket and sat on the curb.
LA wasn't suppost to be this cold. Even in October.
I sighed and took another swig from my bottle. The beer tasted boring and out dated.
I set it down beside me, and fell back onto the cold concrete.
There was something wrong with me.
My mind wouldn't let me drink anymore...
I took a deep breath and started to think. It wasn't too often I was alone and sober, so I grasped at the rare opportunity.

I have to think of possibilities.
I have to think of reasons.
I have to find out an answer.

One problem.
I can't get drunk.
Why? What in the world was making me not want to drink!? Nothing had changed in my life.. so what the hell was making me suddenly want to be sober...
I knew it had to be something big... something important... like a message I just wasn't reading correctly.

I stood up, kicked over the bottle and watched the foamy liquid spill out onto the sidewalk.
I was determined.
There was a reason I couldn't get drunk tonight, and I was going to find it.

There were no lights on anywhere... It was too late for life.. I sighed, and kept going, trying to ignore the cold that was stinging my ears as I walked into the wind and away from my house.
Its times like these that I wish I had hair like Joes, as stupid as he looks sometimes, he must have warm ears.

As much as I looked I couldn't find a single reason on these cold streets.
Until I saw the only illuminated store I'd never noticed before...
Ever heard the expression 'moth to the flame' well I was drawn to this place like that... Like a moth to a flame...
I looked inside, and saw two girls, one of which I recognized to be Charlotte Myria, and the other was facing away from me.
I knew I needed to get inside... And was going to. I just had to wait for Charlotte to leave, then I can ask the owner if there were any reasons I would walk here unwillingly.
Oh wait.. never mind.. I forgot that might sound a bit strange... saying something like 'Hey I can't get drunk and I think it has something to do with this store of yours'.
Yeah, right.

I leaned against the side of the small cafe, and looked up at the barely starred sky. You can never see any stars here. Its kind of sad really..

Five minutes later, a very tired Charlotte was standing in front of me arms crossed and foot tapping.

"Kevin Jonas" she sighed. "Why are you here?"
"Uhm.. coffee?" I lied, I couldn't exactly tell her the truth, so whatever.
"Yeah okay I'm gonna believe you because honestly I'm too tired to talk anymore." she said that and mumbled something else under her breath, then began walking home, which I hadn't noticed until now, was only a minute or two away.
How strange...
I blinked and looked around. She had actually gone home. Stubborn Charlotte had actually gone home.

Time to go in. I walked up to the door and it was locked. So I knocked, and the lights went off.
Wow, that's nice.

I knocked again and they came on.
A very blurry, very confused girl looked through the shades at me, then opened the door.

"Can I help you sir?" she sounded tired, but at the same time very friendly.
"Uhm.. well... your light was the only one on.. and I..." I stammered.
"You.. what?"
"I just... can I come in?" I was hopeful..
"Sure..." she said opening the door.
As soon as she did I saw her clearly for the first time.

I saw her sparkling, sad dark green eyes.
I saw her light pink soft blush.
I saw the freckles splayed across the bridge of her nose.
I saw the way her light brown bangs touched the top of her eyelashes on the right side...
I saw the way the curls in her hair framed her soft jaw line.
I saw the perfect shape of her lips.
And I saw the way she looked at me.

Uninterested, and bored.
I sighed.
"Never mind" I said at a loss for words. "I forgot what I wanted"

And it was true.
Usually when I saw a pretty girl my first instinct was to want her.
Was to use her.. then throw her out.
Like a kleen-ex.
Use her... then throw her out.

But staring at this.. this random coffee store worker.
I didn't know what I wanted.
My mind was a mess, and my thoughts were unreadable.

"You sure?" she smiled and it made two perfect indentions on either side of her mouth.
"No" I was staring like an idiot.
"Uhm.... I'm Sami.."
"Kevin"
"Come in Kevin" she was still smiling.
"Aghh... I.. Oh.." I couldn't formulate a sentence.
She laughed a little. "Its okay, I need to lock up anyway"

I wanted to stop her from closing the door.
I wanted to stay there and talk to her.
I wanted to do a lot of things.

But I just stood there, and let her end our conversation.
