  • Not all children with autism pull hair, my son doesn't, never did, he's always been a slapper and a scratcher. On the other side, not all children that pull hair have autism. My older sister, when she gets into a physical fight, has always resorted to hair pulling, but she is now autistic. There isn't enough of anything here to give the child any diagnosis. Someone could just say, she seems tired and needs a nap.

  • Pulling hair is not a criteria to diagnose autism. Every child exhibits different symptoms and behaviors in the Autism Spectrum Disorder.

To be diagnosed as autistic, one has to reliably show impairment in language, social interaction and repetition of dysfunctional behaviors such as flapping hands, rocking and some verbal stimulation.

Get a licensed doctor's advise. The earlier the intervention starts, the better will be the outcome.

  • OH yes, Autism for sure! hair pulling I think must be a symptom because my son still does this at 4 and a half!
