  • Lonergan's macroeconomics involves knowing how the economy works and then deciding responsibly what to do based on that knowledge. It needn't involve higher taxes which for Lonergan can be detrimental to economic justice. You are right, individual and group economic decision-making is local, though national groups need to also decide in this manner. Acting responsibly also goes against the economic view that the market only needs people to act selfishly. We have seen where that leads.

  • Compassion and economic justice simply means more taxes for the bureaucratics to pay the poor to be poor on a national level. Which means more debt which means inflation which means loss of confidence in the dollar which means goodbye USA. Only on a local level can this "compassion" come into play.
