JOHN HEILPERN, theatre critic of The New York Observer explains the premature demise on Broadway of the wonderful British play CORAM BOY. This interview aired as part of "THEATER TALK's 2007 Tony Award Cavalcade."
If all young Americans were "glued to porn or out shopping" then Spring Awakening would never have been a hit, so I don't really think that's a fair assessment. Americans and Brits just have different tastes.
Mr. Heilpern's a great critic and considers who the show is aimed for. Loved his comment about "boring jaded old critics". We need more critics like him.
This man is my hero! I'm so glad that he is one of the first critics not to follow the mold and actually praise this show for what it is! HE UNDERSTOOD THE SHOW. He knows who it was for, not the "boring jaded old critics"! Wow, I want to meet this man. What a hero!
i watched it on broadway. IT ROCKED. I WAS TRANSPORTED INTO ANOTHER WORLD! the music SHOCKED and MOVED me at the same time. and i am not english, or american for that matter. the best show ive ever watched in my entire life.

Coram Boy was possibly the best thing I've ever seen on Broadway. I got lucky enough to catch it on it's closing weekend :)
