James Hudson had an incredibly smooth vibrating tenor lead sound, supported by the ethereal gospel tinged harmonies of his group, with the big bass under it all. Polished and soulful in just the right measure. This group had IT. Helping to civilize our more savage instincts, the role of a talented artist. Appreciations for this post.

We should all write to the Hall of Fame Listing all of these great doo wop groups who deserve to be in the Hall Of Fame, maybe we can start a movement. Certainly all of our music is better than all of the stuff that is out now.

Totally agree. I guess pure talent doesn't count with the Hall of Fame.

I saw Pookie Hudson and the Spaniels at least two times in the D.C. area live back in the late 1970's. might have been at the old Howard theater which was just being renovated or the Warner theater. pookie was the original Ice man along with sonny till

I have to agree - this group was one of my inspirations along with Ray Charles - they should definitely be in the RnR Hll of Fame!

I agree, Pookie Hudson had a one of a kind sound. Many came behind him trying to duplicate his style and sound but no one quite made it. RIP Mr. Hudson, you are missed.
