It wasn't until Pats got a healthy Cory Dillon that the Pat's had an effective, consistent running game. From the time Martin left until Dillon showed up the Pats have had a patchwork running team.... with Antoine Smith being the only memorable RB in between.
The Superbowl teams were primarily based on good defenses that capitalized on other teams mistakes combined with a competent offense and a very talented QB.
I think if the Pats kept Curtis they'd have been a different team for a few years.
Boy the Pats made a big mistake losing Martin. Hiring Ernie Zampeze and going from a smash mouth offensive team to a finesse team hurt the play style of the offense dreadfully. Ask Sam Gash. Good for Curtis. Glad he continued to make an impact for the Jets. I miss seeing him play.
the best running back who will ever live.

@knightflyte Yea, the Pats really ended up in HORRIBLE shape and the Jets really turned into an unstoppable force after Martin moved on.
Don't get me wrong, Curtis Martin is one of my favorite players of all time and is one of the top 10 RBs in history... but come on.
