In 2008 a new waste contract commenced between Gosford City, Wyong Shire and Thiess Services. Gosford continued to use the existing 3-bin-system, whereas the Wyong service was altered to implement the 3-bin-system, with residents originally using a split garbage/recycling bin and a green-waste bin.

As a part of the new contract, a brand new fleet of 61 trucks was purchased. Garwood supplied all the rear loader bodies, Superior Pak supplied all the side loader bodies and Iveco built all the Acco chassis' for the bodies to sit on. Both Wyong and Gosford have the exact same trucks, which can be spotted by the unmistakable blue and white Thiess colours, as well as the catchy signage for each service.

In this video I combined clips of each of the Superior Pak Raptors that can be found on the Central Coast (green-waste, garbage and recycling). They are all basically the same, except the garbage bodies are 23m and the recycling + green-waste bodies are 29m, then of course you have the different signage. However, I do recall seeing a smaller single-axle side loader with the recycling signage.

I took all this on the 2008 spring holidays over at a place called Woy Woy and Umina Beach during a great Tuesday morning. Also a big thanks to the friendly drivers I came across, all very helpful. I hope you enjoy the footage, ratings & comments are very much appreciated. I also have some footage of the bulk-waste truck in action and further videos of these three Superior Paks which you may want to look at.

Body Make: Superior Pak
Model: 23m & 29m Raptors
Chassis: Iveco Acco
Council: Gosford City (Central Coast)
Contractor: Thiess Services
Collection Type: Green-Waste / Garbage / Recycling

  • These trucks are awsome, like the green and the garbage and so the recycling. Scince these trucks are new do the claws go faster now or stay the same because that green ones pretty slow. But great video 10/10 *****

  • Yeh I reckon Thiess' Central Coast trucks have some of the best signage in Sydney... very colourful and eye-catching! =] Be nice if trucks were always as interesting as this! The arm speed depends on whether or not the arms have actually been adjusted... though I believe that arms gradually become faster themselves as the trucks age.

  • HOLY CRAP at 3:50!!! Imagine having to set all those out...Also loved the pic at 5:14! Did you take that?? Could you possibly send me that one? Just an awesome angle!!

I love it how companies try to emphasize recycling by making all the recycling bins TWICE the size of the garbage bins LOL! Certainly happens here too. Guess it works though :D

Thanks a lot for the vid, sɹɐʇs ǝʌıɟ¡¡¡

P.S. Was that some sort of RL at 8:01? Seemed like it because the back was slanted a lot like one.

  • haha they're actually from seperate houses, everyone takes their own out. If you think that was a lot, there's one unit with a shitload of bins to put out - I'll have to get a video or some pictures of it one Tuesday afternoon... even a video of them getting tipped. Nah that's not my picture, I'd love to say it was mine though - awesome view! I've sent it to you. Seems to really work over there - notice how much came out of the garbage bins? Yep an RL in the end, that was the bulk waste truck.

  • Looked like the RL had some type of arm on the top...imagine that would be for loading larger items?? You'll have to get a vid, or at least a pic :D Seems pretty inefficient, should just have a couple dumpsters everyone can throw their trash into. That's how it would be done here...So was that Theiss pic from their website or something? Like you said in the email, prolly the best ASL tipping pic ever! Thanks for sending it BTW!!

  • You're right, a crane/grapple which is actually meant for loading everything (for workplace safety)... not that the drivers really use it as it's slow. I've got a video of this truck to put up in 3-uploads-time (unfortunately not with the crane in action). Yes the pic is from one of Thiess', but I got the larger version through e-mail - no probs for the send.

  • Great find mate... love these new Iveco Accos, have a beautiful sound. Still reckon the MJE`s are faster than the Superior Paks.

  • Great trucks Thiess Services has, much better, stronger and cleaner than the old Sita trucks (2001-2008) we used to have. In fact, I have even been to the Thiess depot on an open day located at Somersby and they have a huge automatic garbage truck wash, just like a carwash, and a petrol station on site for them.

  • How come Gosford City have raptors only?

  • why do so many of them end up on the back of a tow truck watchin garbos get a life dude

  • wat engine is this

  • my nan lives in gorokan which is in wyong council there is a heap of bins to set out maybe 50 - 60 because it is all units and it is good to watch in a cul de sac
