Two things should be noted :
1/ The BGM music in the Japanese version is better than the English version. It adds a nostalgic touch to the whole.
2/ The absence of voice acting is by far the greatest flaw of the Japanese version. DQ 8 is amongst the rarest games to have benefitted from a decent dub when brought overseas.
So my choice in this case is clear : English version.
