I'm Matt and I'm a Designer at Ubisoft Reflections, last year whilst working on the Nintendo Wii version of Driver San Francisco I decided it was time to propose to the girl of my dreams, my girlfriend Lauren.

I needed to do something I knew know one else could do, it had to be cool and more importantly it had to be geeky! I decided to create a mission in Driver San Francisco which would ask the question for me... So with the help of my friends on the Wii Team at Reflections we created a special version of the Game with my level included.

The Setup:

I told Lauren we were worried the game was too hard for the casual audience on the Wii and asked if she would mind testing it for us, she agreed, so I made arrangements to take a Devkit home with the Proposal version of the game loaded on it.

That night we settled down to play the game, she worked her way through the initial tutorial missions in about 30min and once I thought she had the controls nailed down I told her there were some specific missions we were worried about the difficulty of. This is when I used some Dev Cheats to skip to the special mission... and promptly started to shit myself!

The Mission:

The proposal mission starts off just like any other mission, the objective is set up, drive to certain points to make the drop-offs, get through all of the drop-offs in 10min. All that we changed was the final drop-off. This drop was moved to Hutchinson St. (I named this road after Lauren, so it's her street :D)

Lauren made it to the final drop and the camera started to pan up the building until it settled on a Billboard reading "Lauren Hutchinson, will you marry me?". Whilst this was happening I got down on one knee in front of her and said the immortal words :D.

The game then asked her to "Press A to Accept" and... SHE SAID YES!!!.

She pressed the A Button and when she did 'our' song started playing "Perfect Lovesong - Divine Comedy" and we kissed, jumped up and down and had a bit of a dance!

She didn't expect a thing! Best day of my life! Love you Lauren!

NOTE: This recording isn't of the actual moment I proposed unfortunately :(, I was too preoccupied at the time to whip the phone out and record it as it happened :P
