We learn how to ask if someone wants something - at the moment, our discourse is still revolving around the dining table, food, passing food, and associated social niceties. As with all the lessons, there is extensive oral workout material, as each new item or vocabulary unit is added.

No,it would be faster to *see* but it would not be faster to learn! Almost everyone greatly overestimates the powers of both their memory, and their ability to learn things at speed. Language learning is a slow process, and the process needs to be slowed down, not speeded up. This is why most people give up on learning languages - they race, crash, and burn.The process needs to be paced, slow, and highly repetitive. Writing the words out yourself helps a lot too.
