President Benigno S. Aquino III witnessed the launching of the Philippine Business Registry (PBR), a project spearheaded by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) that offers a one-stop shop for entrepreneurs to secure various government permits to operate a business.
The PBR uses a web-base system that interlinks several government agencies involved in business registration. This allows businessmen to acquire their business name certificate and register with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), Pag-ibig, Philhealth, and Social Security System (SSS) without physically transacting with the agency.
During the launch, two entrepreneurs were able to register their businesses in less than 30 minutes. Trade Secretary Gregory Domingo underscored that the web-base system saves considerable transactions time compared to the old registration process that normally takes a day to complete.
The new registration system was created in response with President Aquino directive to streamline business registration and cut down red-tape.
