Ofcom is not run by the state. Neither is Ofgem, Ofwat, Ofsted etc. They are independent regulatory bodies. Even if they were it makes more sense to hand 'power' to a democratically elected body than leave it in the hands of organisations like news international whose journalistic standards have been demonstrated to be lacking. I assume you're coming at this from a laissez faire standpoint in which case why are you siding with a market power?
