Wow...this is one impressive knife. And it costs just $50 (at least 2008, your cost may vary, buy it now). Looking at Ontario SP10 Marine Raider knife in pictures does not do it justice...at all. In fact I though it looked kind of goofy. I'm glad I gave it a chance. Seriously, you have to handle this HUGE blade to appreciate the heft and the potentiality of it all. Yeah it's heavy but when it comes to hacking, chopping stuff down, and wood splitting... heavy is good. It minimizes your work in the woods and helps prevent shock and vibration from wearing you out. If your system can take the weight, you will be glad you have it. Specifically the impressive SP10 cranks the scales at 27 oz but still weighs less than the also excellent Ontario RTAK II (reviewed). As I've said before, nothing will perform as good as wilderness "woodworking" than a big, strong blade like this. The 1/4" 1095 blade is a classic Bowie shape: sharp tip, good sweep, angled for better cutting, and strong. Look for my wilderness trials of this blade in the months that follow but I suspect it will hack, split, and chop with great efficiency. Also it is a very formidable combat knife that easily lop off an arm...no kidding. Other features include: Kraton polymer handle on top of the full tang, an interesting Cordura/Leather sheath that looks to be durable, a pivoting belt attachment, and epoxy blade coating. Minor downsides would include the lack of a full flat grind (FFG) and the cumbersome sheath required for the blade shape. The Marine Raider is a serious and intimidating blade that looks like it will excel in the woods...and it's cheap. Now I'm a Raider fan.////////////////////////Nutnfancy Likability Scale: 9 out of 10 (price considered)
