  • We use the ready made 'roll out icing' as its now called in the UK. You can make your own (as I always used to do when I started) but the shop bought is just as good and the perfect texture for modelling and for covering etc. If you look on my website in the Sugarcraft section you can see all the different colours available and so on.

    Best, Jane

  • To answer Showgirl Lola's beautifully posed question: you remove the f***ing ribbons before you cut the cake. How stupid of me not to include that instruction...

Or, of course you could use edible ribbon, either bought or home-made from strips of roll-out icing. But ordinary ribbon is very traditional on wedding cakes.

  • Of course you could always make an edible decoration and edible ribbon for this, but that would use more advanced techniques: I wanted to show how anyone can make something really beautiful very simply! The weight of the cake is supported by wooden dowels and you can see in the video how they are applied. Thanks for all your comments and have a wonderful

    Christmas. Love Jane x

  • Just responding to sushimama's comment about the decoration: it is in fact quite a heavy, metal brooch and very beautiful in 'real life'. The video probably doesn't do it justice

    Best wishes
