Renewable energy has come to Yosemite National Park! The Park's El Portal Maintenance and administrative complex is now home to the largest solar effort to date within the U.S. National Park System. Projections say the brand new, 672-kilowatt system in the park will provide about 12 percent of the park's power needs.
The system has been installed by Suntrek Solar, and contains 2,800 solar PV panels, a 500 kilowatt (kW) solar canopy over a parking lot, a 100 kW rooftop lay out on a warehouse and a 72 kW wall mounted array. The project was unveiled to the public in July of 2011.
