What began as a short, capsule review, turned into an extended riff on the pleasures of Martin Scorsese's latest escapade. Take your prozac. Sit back. And remember: it's all in your head.
sorry guys i watched this film and after about 30 mins i fell asleep and as for the leading man DiCaprio when he was in a suit at the beginning of the film it made him look so young like he had borrowed his suit of his dad sorry to be a party pooper
I liked Shutter Island a lot. and i liked DiCaprio in it but i also think he's overrated.
I mean he's a very good actor and very intense in most of his roles. But i just get the feeling he needs to do something different because since Gangs of New York his roles were all very similar.
He's always intense in all his roles. He's always a guy that looks like he's gonna have a heart attack. And I'm just getting sick of that. He should do something different.
Shutter Island was middle-tier Scorsese, I thought. There was none of the sort of mad glee that I expected from the film. It seemed very simple. And it didn't grab me the way his best films do, I can't imagine myself sitting down again and again with Shutter Island the way I do with GoodFellas, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, or even Gangs of New York, which is a wildly underrated film.
Lest we forget, however, that a mediocre Scorsese is worth a fantastic anybody-else.
Oh and I am with Eric on Gangs of New York, didn't like it the first time, saw it again and man, I loved the hell out of it...except Cameron Diaz, she still brings it down
Kinda agree with most of you guys, just watched Shutter Island yesterday and I liked it, didn't love it. It seemed like this was a movie where Scorsese was kind of coasting along, seemed like anyone could have directed this movie and made it just as good.
Finally saw SHUTTER ISLAND. I thought it was pretty good (very creepy moments). My only real beef with it is that it went on a little too long, and the revelation at the finale was a little too Beautiful Mind-esque, but it's still a shocking scene.

Shutter Island is fantastically filmed, directed, and acted, and I couldn't ask for much more in a thriller
