Rob Mathes conducting strings at Abbey Road for Bettye LaVette.

"These videos of me conducting at Abbey Road Studios are made available to show the extraordinary sound of that hallowed room and the beautiful musicianship of the London musicians contracted by the esteemed Isobel Griffiths. These are essentially simple Pop string charts for Pop records but listen to that room and those players. Thanks to Pete Thoms at the British Musicians Union and Isobel Griffiths for their permission and to the extraordinary musicians led by Thomas Bowes on Violin. Normally my string section there includes the incredible Tony Pleeth on Cello, Peter Lale on Viola, Perry Montague Mason or Emlyn Singleton leading on Second Violin. Jackie Shave often also leads the orchestra for me when Thomas Bowes doesn't. They are magnificent musicians and Isobel Griffiths has been incredibly good to me over the years. I thank her and Pete Thoms for allowing me to post these wonderful films of them in action. I also thank the engineer Jonathan Allen and the queen of Abbey Road Studios, Studio Manager Colette Barber."--Sincerely, Rob Mathes
