@dcwoodard What I think that was meant as is that if Death would "go through" Aeon, the guardian of time, then Death would no doubt be able to defeat the Time Reaper.
Aeon's story almost states directly that he gathered them all hoping someone would prove to be able to defeat the Time Reaper by defeating all the others and Aeon himself.
Aeon's one true goal is to save time from being destroyed by the Time Reaper, even if he needs to put his own safety on the line.
