On October 13, 1951 the Pope's Legate, Cardinal Tedeschini, was sent to Fatima for the closing of the Holy Year. He told the crowd that Pope Pius XII had himself seen, repeated in Rome, the Miracle of the Sun that had occurred at the last Fatima apparition. It is clear that the Holy Father chose Fatima for this major event, to bring attention to the Message of Our Lady of Fatima. The Holy Father had, in fact, been graced to see the Miracle of the Sun on four separate occasions the previous year: October 30 and 31, November 1 (the day Pius XII solemnly defined the dogma of the Assumption), and November 8 (the octave of the same solemnity).

At this time Mr DeMello was traveling the country side with his chaufer stopping at olive groves and the site of a windmill. You will see the sheep herder and the market place and woman carrying baskets on thier heads. Take notice of the clothing between the poor and the possibly tourist or wealthy.

The Beatification
The Declaration of Jacinta and Francisco Marto as Blessed on 13 May 2000 represents the next to last stage in the Church's official recognition of their holiness. It also provides a further confirmation of the authenticity and value of the Message of Fátima. Remarkably, the principal visionary is still alive, Lucia dos Santos (Sr. Maria Lucia, OCD), able to rejoice in the elevation of her companions to the honor of the altar. The whole Church must rejoice, as well, that ones so young were able to live lives of heroic virtue. Parents, especially, should be emboldened to encourage holiness in the young, confident that it is possible for anyone, of whatever age, who follows the spiritual advice of Our Lady of Fátima.

  • is Portugal a poor country?

  • No I would not say it is a poor country. I would say it is rich in culture and history and beauty.

  • but Portugal has the lowest GDP in western Europe. Its also now the new sick man of Europe.

  • I don't live there so i would not know those details. This is only a clip from a film I had.
