SYOSSET — As education funding around New York State continues to drop, one school superintendent isn't feeling the pain of the budget knife. Syosset Superintendent Carol Hankin recieved a 4.7% increase in her annual salary last June to more than $400,000. For the 2011/12 school year, Hankin will earn more than New York City Chancellor Dennis Walcott and Governor Andrew Cuomo. Hankin's salary has been cited by the governor as an example of wasteful spending, however Hankin defended her record to Newsday, citing Syosset High School's high ranking in a study by the Washington Post.
That is a large salary but the "normal" person has no clue how much time of a person life is consumed by this job. Teacher and admin. are undervalued by our society.
