'People shouldn't play at life or merely study it, but live it, beginning to end.' That summarized quote comes from Henry Thoreau and is the basis for a unique class called "Adventure Literature Series" in the Department of English at Penn State. Students in the class read about environmental, cultural and historical issues of a certain geographical area, but what makes this class different from others is that students visit and live in that particular area for a portion of the class session. Mobile journalist Britany Gallagher enrolled in the class during the spring 2009 semester when Bob Burkholder, associate professor of English, escorted his group to the shores of South Carolina.
