In his book, Nineteen Eighty-Four, George Orwell described a corrupt government which didn't approve of its actual history, so they changed it to one which would made it easier to manipulate the populace. Religious extremists on the Texas State Board of Education now seek to do the same thing, -after having already vandalized the studies of science and health- in the name of censorship and propaganda, and in the hope that all the other states bow to the whim to Texas fundamentalists.

Don't.

It's time to fix this broken system. It's time to revise the system such that uneducated and unqualified political ideologues no longer oppose all the experts in every field of study we need to teach.

Please review the Texas Freedom Network's campaign to de-politicize the classroom, to 'just educate' our students.

  • @AronRa I find it ironic that those who say that they develop their morals from the bible are those who cherry pick from it. That in itself displays that their morality is not founded nor relevant to it in any way. Also, the history in my class has gone downhill, the textbooks and teacher talk of the Flood, Moses' exodus, and many other things only found in the bible which was wrote thousands or year later as if it accurately describes events-as fact.

  • @pat5168 You may be in a position where you could sue the teacher or the school. Can you gather proof that the teacher -and especially the textbook- talk about Noah's flood or the exodus as if either story was actually an historic event?

  • @SteadyD4Jesus Religion has no need of morals. That's why it doesn't have any. However social animals -by necessity- require that their individuals be compliant with the needs and function of the community as a whole. Aberration is restricted while altruism is supported. That means evolving a sense of empathy for family, friends, and fellows, where religion promotes prejudice instead.

  • @SteadyD4Jesus You should understand that most 'evolutionists' are Christian, and that most Christians are evolutionist. As for the second fallacy, why should we care that there are too many mouths to be fed by those who can never get their education -and thus be productive- if they're spending all their time producing babies they can't adequately support? Did you really just ask that question? Dude, what is wrong with you?

  • @MisterTutor2010 doubleplussgood comments, my friend.

  • Actually, no religion should be above the others including Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, etc.

  • any1 who describes themselves as an XXX fundamentalist should be sent to a mental hospital

  • You cited two founding fathers. One, Thomas Jefferson, indeed talked about a wall between state and church. The other talked about settling purely legal disputes between the religions. (Have no phones here).

Now, could there not be an argument that this is actually being done by claiming equal rights for Darwinism and Creationism?

  • AronRa and Matt Dillahunty , a deadly combo.

  • i hate that i just found out about this and i live in houston. fuck!

  • @SteadyD4Jesus "Why would an evolutionist care if there are multiple teen pregnacys? Isn't procreating good for evolution?"

Evolution's goals =/= human goals. Evolution doesn't tell us what to do. Evolution is just something that happens. WE, humans, get to decide what our goals are.

  • Of course we ALL know the books weren't already bias to start with, lol.
