  • Here I guess the programmatic aspects are of assistance - except for the pulsating drum beats, which occur later in movements 5 and 7. But the atonal idiom does not musically relate to what follows, and so some explanation is called for, which here is helpful. Chalk it down to my insistence upon listening abstractly, forming my own images.

    The aspect of ancient Gregorian chant somehow does not suggest itself, the tonal aspect, firmly on G Major, a very dominating influence.
