权做个麻鞋箬笠游方客 Tonight let me just be a traveller in straw sandals and coir cape,
到禅房与老道煮茗夜话 and have a evening tea and talk with the Old Taoist.

闻听人言 华山圣母娘娘 I heard that Mout Hua Goddess used to show the way for wanders
曾用宝莲神灯指引山间迷路之人 in the mountain by Lotus Lantern.
倒是一位慈悲的仙子 我理该祝告一番啊 She is such a merciful goddess that I should say my prayers to her.
啊 华山圣母娘娘在上 Ah Mout hua Goddess your highness,
学生刘彦昌祖居罗州幼承庭训长读诗书 My name is LIU Yanchang,born in Luozhou and brought up with lectures and poems.
此番上京赴考路过华山 I'm going to Beijing for the imperial exams and pass through the mountain.
暂借娘娘仙宫一席之地 Please allow me to take shelter here
做个游子栖身之处 in your divine palace for one night.
娘娘呀 Goddess!
恕未曾供香烛酌水献花 Forgive me not to offer scented candles and flowers to you,
我只有拱双手深深一拜 The only thing I could do is to make a courtesy call to you.
看娘娘彩霞焕作芙蓉面 The goddess' pink face is like rosy mist,
乌云堆成青丝发 her bushy hair are like dark clouds,
一双眼似秋水盈盈 her eyes seem like autumn water in pools,
两道眉似远山脉脉 and her eyebrows are like two hills far away.
哪里是河水调泥塑捏成 She is absolutely a divine down from heaven,
分明是九天仙女把瑶台下 How could such a beauty be sculptured by water and mud?

见娘娘双眉并蹙 Knitting the brows,
想必是怜悯流离失所的百姓 She must have a pity on those who lost their homeland.
令人可钦啊可佩 What an admirable goddess!

人言道娘娘是慈悲仙子 People say goddess is full of mercy and sympathy,
为苍生锁双眉煞费心思 and racks her brains for the living of human beings.
怎么奈是人间独多乱离事 However,the world of mortals are full of confusion and disorder.
你满腹愁思怎消除 How could the goddess smooth away her worry ans sorrow?
你一心莲灯指引迷路客 She pays all her attention on leading those who are lost,
仙乡寂寞无人知 No one knows her loneliness in the divine palace.
今晚我挥毫礁壁题诗句 Tonight I will compose a poem on the wall
以表仰慕莫笑痴 to show my admire for her.

待我在墙上题诗一首 Why not write a poem on the wall
以表仰慕之意有何不可呀 to show my respect?

踦路莲灯倍可亲 Goddess' lotus lantern is cordial for the lost,
峨眉应为乱离颦 and her eyebrows are knitted for the fugitive.
莫愁玉女峰头冷 Although the virgin mountain is secluded,
尢有天台采药人 Still there is someone gathering medicinal herbs.

啊钟儿啊钟儿 你若有灵将我彦昌一片仰慕之意上达娘娘吧 Bell,Please inform the goddess of my respect!
啊娘娘 你休嫌我这读书人的唐突啊 Goddess!Please don't mind a scholar's abruptness.

原待圣母避佑下 I wish I could have a sweet dream in safety
一宵好梦平安无话 under the protection of the goddess for tonight!

啊呀荒唐呀是荒唐 Oh it's so absurd!
