One dead and three children injured in an afternoon shooting on the 2600 block of Segrest Street on Friday, July 25, 2008.
Police were called to the scene at 1:21 p.m. Police believe several vehicles pulled up and opened fire on a house on Segrest. Police found more than 80 shell casings from various caliber weapons on the street.
"There is no doubt this was a planned attack," Police Chief Bryan Smith said.
Danny Villarreal was pronounced dead at the hospital and a 40-year-old man was shot in the chest and is also in critical condition. It is unclear if he was a victim or one of the shooters.
Three children, a one-year-old, two-year-old and five-year-old, were hospitalized with what police believe were shotgun pellet wounds. Police said the five-year-old was in critical condition and has been upgraded to serious. All three are expected to survive, at least two were Villarreal's children.
