Lesvos island, the birthplace of poets and artists

Lesvos island is a Greek island located in the northeastern Aegean Sea. It is the third largest Greek island. Its capital is Mytilene, in the southernpart of the island. It has numerous beautiful villages with idyllic landscape, extensive olive groves, majestic sunsets. happy people and vivid nightlife. One can find plenty of fish food, the famous Kallonis' sardines, and the excellent Plomari ouzo, a strong local drink. There are wonderful beaches, fascinating villages. Many visitors come to dip themselves in one of the many healing hot water springs of the island. Lesvos has some of the best fish taverns in Greek islands, the strongest ouzo drink in the Mediterranean and the finest olive oil anywhere in the world. It has also the most famous miraculous churches in Greece.One should visit the petrified Forest of Lesvos. Remains of fossil plants form the famous petrified forest of Lesvos, which is declared a Protected Natural Monument.

The sun rising in the sea with its red rays reflected on the oily sea waters among the leaves of the olive trees, the idyllic landscape of the blue sea and the olive groves and the smell of seaweeds are moments I'll never forget. Those who love Lesvos are friends!

I discovered Lesvos and fell in love with Eresos in 1986. I have returned there every year, sometimes 3 times a year and now that I have retired I've been able to spend several months there this year. It is one of the most beautiful places in the world and as an earlier post says it has barely altered. Thanks for posting this but I'm selfish, I don't want the whole world to discover what we have already found and to spoil it.

I went in lesvos last year.. in skala eressos.. the birth place of Saffo.. there is a great atmosfere there.. nice sea .. straight couples , lesbian couples.. evrything is peaceful... like another world..really.
