Not sure what bible your reading friend, but mine clearly details our current events coming to pass, the ending result being Lucifer is cast into the lake of fire along with the false prophet. He's already lost but he's doing everything in his power to take as many people as he can with him.

The reason for the apocalypse is to reach as many as possible before God returns his world back to before the time of sin.
