  • @Eyyoh77 A single shot wouldn't have warned the Americans that a massive offensive was about to begin.

  • @Eyyoh77 thats interesting input, I can't imagine how he'd let an entire probe patrol go undisturbed to report back.

  • @funstuff2006 Maybe the next patrol didn´t come back because they were imprisoned or killed silently with knives by the Germans.

  • @Eyyoh77

If that is true it doesn't explain why the next patrol (that went out the same night) didn't come back.

In the American Civil war Pickets used to stand within earshot and not shoot eachother. I like to think that, if the german DID realize it was an american patrol, yet still did nothing, it was because Mr. Thrasher didn't make a threatening movet, so there was no reason to raise the alarm and risk getting killed right there.

  • @harris1234100 Thank your Grandpa for me!

  • Is Bob still alive? My Grampa was in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a mortar man.

  • I am german. I know our mentality. In my opinion the german soldier didn´t shoot because he had order to keep silence. Next morning should start the battle of the bulge.

Starting an attack or even a single shot before the right time could warn the enemy and avoid the whole operation. The german soldier only obeyed the orders...a lucky circumstance for Bob Thrasher. Next day the german soldier surely would have shot him.

  • lol.."god damn you're always seeing things"

  • Ya, he wrote a book, "popcorn road to Paris...and back" man this guy was the real deal. I just bought the book on Ebay...
